There are lots of different ways that you can watch things in 3D these days. You can watch 3D films that are showing at the cinema, and if you have a 3D TV you can see those same 3D films on the small screen as well. One of the most recent innovations when it comes to 3D though is 3D computing. You are able to get PCs that are 3D, and also 3D laptops. Indeed, Sony is bringing out a new 3D laptop, in the Vaio series.
The new Sony Vaio is a 3D laptop requiring active shutter 3D glasses.
Benefits of a 3D Laptop
If you have a Sony 3D Laptop you are going to need active shutter 3D glasses to go with it. These are the sort of 3D glasses that are used with 3D TVs and afford the highest resolution and sharpest picture quality. If you also have a Sony 3D TV then the same glasses should work with the laptop as well.
Of course you can do just about anything on a 3D laptop as you can with a 3D TV, although the screen is smaller naturally. You should even be able to get 3D TV programmes streamed onto your laptop, and you can certainly watch Blu Ray discs. There is also a lot more you can do with a 3D laptop though.
There are games that you can get for PCs and laptops which are in 3D, but more than that certain machines are able to convert what was made for two dimensional displays into three dimensions. The new laptop from Sony, the Vaio F Series is one of the 3D laptops which is able to do this. It won’t necessarily work for everything, nor would you want it to most likely. For example a word processor in 3D would probably not be something that most people would be that interested in. 3D photos and 3D videos which were not made in 3D but which can be converted to such might be of interest in many cases though. Although, naturally, programmes and media which were made in order to be shown in 3D are probably going to look better in 3D. If you are worried about there not being enough 3D content to make it worth it get a 3D laptop though then you can take care of that by turning 2D content into 3D.
3D Glasses for 3D Laptops
If you are going to buy 3D glasses for a Sony laptop then any active shutter Sony glasses should work, as should any substitute for them, universal 3D glasses. Getting extra pairs of glasses to watch 3D media in is a good idea as it allows more people to gather around and enjoy the experience of 3D. This might be more appropriate for 3D TVs than 3D laptops of course as it is harder for people to get around the smaller screen of a laptop.
Beware though, not all active 3D glasses will work with all the same equipment, and in particular the brand manufacturers do not cross over in terms of 3D technology.
