It has been announced that a new 3D television programme is going to be shown on Sky 3D. It is going to be a series showing stately homes, and it is going to be presented by Selina Scott. It will purportedly be a “unique” experience, and indeed this may be the first 3D TV show of this kind.
Spectacular
Stately homes are to be given the 3D treatment on Sky 3D.
It has been commented on by many people that the 3D medium is most suited to one off spectaculars. Whether that is a visually stunning 3D film like Avatar, a sporting even such as a football match in 3D or a 3D boxing match, or anything else that is visually appealing or a one time thing. There might be some people who think that a show about stately homes does not apply to this categorisation but really it does. The stately homes are sure to be decorated very nicely, even spectacularly, and while this is not appreciated by everyone, neither is football and boxing. Also, although it might be said that it is a one off or unique event to be able to see inside stately homes, it is rare, and they are popular tourist attractions when open to the public.
Of course there is no way of saying at this point whether or not this 3D television series will be successful. It is understandable that they are mainly focusing on the higher end of the market at the moment as it is still relatively rare to find someone who owns a 3D TV. Although the numbers are growing all the time. And most commentators agree that the more content there is available for 3D TVs, the more people will invest in a 3D ready TV. Before there is the 3D content available, many people see no point in spending extra to get a 3D TV. Especially, no doubt as the 3D glasses are quite expensive. Having said that of course it is now possible to get a less expensive pair of universal 3D glasses as spares or replacements (even here from our “Shop” section). The point is though, that the more 3D content for 3D TVs is made, the more people are going to be attracted to 3D technology. Eventually, when a significant number of people do have 3D TVs there will undoubtedly be more programmes made with more broad appeal. For example, the 3D effect seems to be begging out for a science fiction television series in 3D, although are no reported plans for that have so far.
3D Content
Whether you like the idea of a 3D series about stately homes or not, if you are looking forward to the day when there is more 3D content available this is good news. It is a step in the right direction. And if you want to support 3D technology even more, speeding along how long it takes for it to become prevalent, you can buy some 3D glasses yourself. Or a 3D TV. Encourage your friends to as well. If enough people do this then soon everyone will own 3D glasses and programme makers will devote more time and effort into producing more 3D content.
